Over a decade ago, Dr. Bert Oubre, a surgeon, traveled to Cameroon, Africa, with the vision of building multiple hospitals in needy sub-Saharan countries with the first hospital to be in Cameroon. With the participation of other missionaries, the hospital was running efficiently and was self supporting within eight years. The vision included serving the nationals with the love and compassion of Jesus Christ and training some to be medical professionals. After much prayer, Bert felt it was time to leave the ministry in Cameroon.
He subsequently became International Medical Director for Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) and served with VOM for a number of years. He did not forget the original vision of building hospitals across the most destitute regions of Africa.
Cutting Edge Foundation, Inc. (CEF) is a Christian ministry that desires to bring quality medical care in the name of Jesus Christ along with the good news of freedom from sin and bondage through Christ to people in Africa. Today, CEF has a fifteen member Board of Directors comprised of men and women from various professions which include: medical doctors, nurses, an architect, a minister, a medical administrator, a forester, a lawyer, a Bible teacher and radio personality. The long- range mission of CEF is to build a network of hospitals across sub-Saharan Africa. These hospitals will be centers of hope and healing to the peoples in surrounding areas, regardless of tribe, language or religion. Our policy is to welcome and treat all impartially.
The first task will be to establish a hospital in N’Djamena, Chad, where we subsequently want to offer specialty training for national doctors and other medical personnel. Following this, our goal is to develop branch hospitals in other needy areas of Chad. As the Lord directs and provides, we desire to build hospitals in other parts of Africa. In addition, we hope to set up medical response teams that could transport and treat persecuted members of the body of Christ. Although these plans certainly exceed our current financial resources, we choose to proceed with the confidence that all things are possible with our God, who loves the world. Our responsibility as His servants is to be led by the Holy Spirit who indwells us.
